Pleasant Grove joins three cities to hire lobbyist for transition to new Timpanogos School District

Administrator Scott Darrington told the Council that after state lawmakers approved a split of Alpine School District, four cities (including Pleasant Grove) formed a Reorganization Committee to support the creation of a new Timpanogos School District. Because state law restricts school districts from hiring lobbyists directly, the committee asked the cities to jointly retain a lobbyist to advocate for funding, statutory fixes and cooperative solutions during the transition.
Darrington said the Lockhart Group would advise the committee, act as liaison to state legislators, and help identify state and federal appropriations for schools in the new district. The Council approved the one-year authorization and cost-sharing plan; Darrington said Pleasant Grove’s portion would be approximately $20,000. The resolution passed unanimously.
