The commission voted on Feb. 19 to forward a proposed amendment to the county Design Standards Manual (DSM) to the Board of Supervisors with a recommendation of approval. "The state code currently limits currently administers stormwater management to any land disturbing activity that serves 1 acre or more of land," said Mead, the staff presenter, explaining the rationale for the change.
Mead told commissioners the DSM's current language restricts drainage requirements to land-use conversion activities that convert 10,000 square feet or more from natural material to impervious surface; staff said changing the DSM will align county practice with the Code of Virginia and reduce confusion for staff and developers. No members of the public spoke on the item; the commission moved, seconded, and approved forwarding the amendment to the Board of Supervisors for recommendation.
