Council hears solid-waste budget increase and requests for landfill fencing and equipment

Presenter (S3) reviewed solid-waste and landfill operations and said the department's budget is approximately $4.4 million, up about $141,000 from last year. Staff noted a $50,000 mitigation cost in landfill operations and said demolition material from schools and other projects has increased revenue. The landfill has requested fencing and a 10-wheel dump truck; staff said the truck procurement is a rollover from the previous year and funding for the vehicle body and accessories will be accommodated in this budget.
Council members praised keeping the landfill operational when other cities closed theirs and noted it benefits resident pocketbooks and commercial customers. Presenter (S3) said the landfill operational request and solid-waste maintenance items will proceed with the funded amounts included in the tentative budget.
