Contractor proposes matting system to repair Discovery Park pickleball courts

At the Council's request, Dustin Larsen of S&L, Inc. described a matting surfacing system that would be placed over the existing Discovery Park pickleball courts as a lower-cost alternative to full court replacement. Larsen said the option is expensive relative to standard resurfacing but significantly less than a complete rebuild, and that the mat system would be warrantied and installed in a timeframe that would take the courts out of service for roughly three to four weeks (season and temperature permitting). He told the Council the matting is designed to allow movement without cracking and said the top will "feel and play exactly like other courts," while adding a slight cushion.
Council members asked for local examples; Larsen said the company is attempting to locate nearby installations for the Council to inspect before making a final decision. Council Member Cyd LeMone reported she had consulted local pickleball professionals who cautioned that some matting systems can change ball bounce; Council members asked staff to obtain additional professional references and to return with price comparisons and warranty details before the Council commits to the installation.
