"Water intrusion and rot in window wells and the bell tower are real structural issues that need to be addressed," one speaker told the meeting. The planning commission and members of the Friends of the Town Hall and Opera House outlined projects including emergency repairs, continued roof and clock‑tower work and eventual ADA improvements (ramps and restrooms), noting previous grants had helped but not completed all tasks.
Opponents and some residents urged the Select Board to use an existing town hall reserve rather than create a separate fund, and asked for transparency about prior grant awards and how funds would be spent. The moderator and Select Board clarified that expenditures from the new fund would require Select Board approval and that existing reserve balances (noted in the town report) have been committed for specific ADA‑related items.
