Board to confirm Jan. 24–29 local emergency after winter storm

"A declaration of emergency was made on Saturday, 01/24/2026 by our county administrator... that fallen precip made snow removal really difficult," the emergency management official said, describing closures and severe travel conditions and noting that the declaration was rescinded on Jan. 29 after response and recovery. Staff thanked the sheriff’s office, fire and rescue and 9-1-1 dispatchers for response in life-threatening road conditions.
The resolution presented to the board would confirm the county administrator’s earlier declaration and thereby formalize the coordinated response and recovery authority the county used during the event. Staff said the declaration facilitated coordination among county departments and allowed use of emergency measures during the event; no expanded state or federal aid was referenced in the morning presentation.
The board asked no substantive questions during the morning review; the resolution was on the consent calendar for evening consideration.
