Resident urges action after years-long delay on large cemetery project application

Dave Wardle, a local resident, told the Board of Supervisors the community has waited years for resolution on a large cemetery project that moved into Amador County after review in Sacramento County. "The delay...it's been going on 4 years and actually started 10 years ago in Sacramento County," Wardle said, arguing the applicant has repeatedly submitted incomplete packages and, most recently, refused to address a fire-code issue about a narrow gate.
Wardle asked the board to identify the specific county code or policy that lets an applicant remain nonresponsive without a deadline and requested the Board place an agenda item to consider changes so that an unresponsive application could be terminated or returned to the planning commission for a decision. "So my request is specifically for county counsel and/or the planning chairman: what is the code section...that gives an unlimited amount of time to settle a problem that is very simple?" Wardle asked.
The board did not take immediate action on his request during public comment. The item Wardle described is pending in planning; Wardle asked that staff or county counsel provide a written explanation of the relevant code section and that the Board consider amending policy or code to address nonresponsive applicants at a future meeting.
