City Manager McCann told the council that the city received notice from the congressman’s office that a Congressional Community Project Funding request for the Native Sons project was awarded $1,000,000.
"That requires some further action; it has to make its way through the House and the Senate, but usually those things have a relatively, positive and easy road," McCann said. He described the money as a long‑anticipated and much‑needed boost for the project and said staff will return with next steps as the funding progresses through federal channels.
McCann noted that the award will require additional administrative follow‑through and that staff will keep the council and public informed about any conditions or next steps tied to the appropriation.
