Fire chief details new scheduling software, recent resignations and promotion planning

Fire Chief Kopp told the commission the fire department will adopt a new scheduling software intended to improve tracking of overtime and reduce manual errors. "We're getting a few more options in the software... we're looking forward to using it, and being able to be more accurate with some of our details as far as overtime and what's causing it," he said.
Chief Kopp also reported a recent resignation by a veteran lieutenant who will leave in the first week of August, which will create acting assignments for roughly a month. He asked the commission whether to proceed with a special meeting for promotion interviews or to run with acting personnel until the next regular commission meeting; commissioners agreed to tentatively plan for a meeting next Monday.
The chief said the department's previous promotion list contains two remaining candidates who could be promoted to lieutenant, which would in turn create an engineer vacancy to fill.
