The Wausau Police and Fire Commission directed staff to develop a formal internal recruitment and selection process to identify and appoint the next Deputy Chief in anticipation of Deputy Chief Todd Baden's retirement in January 2027. The Chair said the commission plans to complete the recruitment process before the end of 2026.
"We are going to proceed with developing a formal internal recruitment and selection process for the appointment of our next Deputy Chief," the Chair said. The commission described this as a preparatory step to ensure continuity when the retirement takes effect; no specific candidates, job descriptions, or timelines beyond a target completion date were finalized during the meeting.
