The Parowan Planning and Zoning Commission on May 6 discussed a proposed minor amendment to the Transportation Master Plan to reclassify 100 North on the west side of town as a minor collector. City Manager Dan Jessen said the change would increase the right-of-way from 60 to 66 feet and make the city eligible to pursue corridor preservation funding for acquiring and constructing the road.
Jessen explained that only half of 100 North has been built in the area because of prior subdivision exaction limits; reclassification would better position the city to complete the east-west connection as development occurs. He framed the amendment as part of the longer-term response to traffic congestion concerns raised by Sky Ranch residents. After discussion the commission voted to set a public hearing date of May 20, 2026 on the proposed amendment. The motion was made by Commissioner Jamie Bonnett, seconded by Commissioner Jerry Vesely, and carried unanimously.
The change is procedural at the master plan level but carries practical implications: a wider right-of-way affects future property frontage and project design, and corridor preservation funding could help the city acquire needed land or easements when development advances. The public hearing will give residents an opportunity to comment on the reclassification before any formal adoption by the council.
