The Town Council approved a letter of support for an ATV trail connection from Millinocket to the New England Outdoor Center on July 23. Councilors and the trail proponents said the proposal does not create new trail mileage but rebuilds and upgrades an existing snowmobile route—addressing wet spots, replacing the Smith Brook Bridge and adding gravel to improve year-round use.
Councilor Raymond said the trail will improve access to Millinocket Lake and noted potential benefits to local lodging and restaurants; meeting presenters said the project had already secured approximately $240,000 in state funding and that final contracts and access routes still require coordination with landowners and state bureaus. The council directed the town manager to submit the letter of support to the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands so the application can proceed.
