CDD discusses 5–10 year storm-surge resilience plan after surge modeling

Long referenced a hypothetical topographic model based on "Hurricane Milton" showing that a 10- to 12-foot storm surge could have flooded an estimated 45% to 55% of the community in the cited scenario.
Long asked the CDD to support the initiative by designating a Board representative and staff or engineering representative to help coordinate with agencies and potential partners. The Board agreed that Mr. Long and newly appointed Mr. Merrill would assist and authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to support as necessary. Mr. Pires noted the Army Corps of Engineers has presented ideas in Collier County should funding become available. No formal funding decision was made during the meeting.
