Kingsbury County Board imposes burn ban amid high-wind advisory

Vice Chairman Corey Lundquist and the Kingsbury County Board voted on Feb. 17, 2026, to implement a countywide burn ban after Emergency Manager Kristen Longville advised the board that a high-wind advisory was in effect.
Longville presented the Fiscal Year 2025 Emergency Management Performance Grant Agreement Articles and discussed procedures for imposing a burn ban. The board authorized Longville to sign the grant agreement (motion by Troy Nelson, second by Steve Spilde) and then voted to impose the burn ban (motion by Kyle Lee, second by Roger Walls). The minutes record the ban as beginning Feb. 17, 2026 and remaining in place until at least the March 3, 2026 meeting. The emergency manager is to consult local fire departments when enforcing or extending the ban.
The board conducted the burn-ban action in open session and recorded no opposition in the minutes. The minutes show the board moved into and returned from an executive session for personnel later in the meeting; no additional action on the burn ban was recorded.
