Delaware County honors Lt. David Butler on retirement after more than 25 years with sheriff's office

The board approved Resolution 26-521 to declare county personal property not needed for public use and authorized sale of items to Lieutenant David Butler on the occasion of his retirement. Chief Deputy John Skowton recounted Butler’s career — beginning in 1993, prior service with the Johnstown Police Department, promotions through patrol and detective ranks, leadership of the county’s Child Abduction Response Team and work on CALEA accreditation.
Sheriff Jeff Balzer thanked Butler for his service and said Butler had been a "go-to person" for many important missions, including accreditation and training. Butler accepted the recognition and said he appreciated the faith placed in him: "I've had a long and very good career here at the office, and I'm gonna miss a lot of everybody, but it's time for me to do things and control my schedule." Commissioners voted to approve the resolution and paused for pictures and additional comments.
Remarks emphasized Butler's role in training more than 100 deputies, his work on critical incidents and his continuing plans to remain involved in the community in a reduced capacity.
