Village vs. County dispute and resident requests drive intergovernmental coordination on U.S. 41 access
Summary

District counsel and staff reported an intergovernmental dispute over road maintenance and a resident-driven traffic request tied to a recent serious vehicle accident. Lenore Brakefield said the Village of Estero's position is that it does not need to maintain the road west of U.S. 41 to the Clubhouse, while Tony Pires said he believes the County is responsible; Pires will send a letter to the Village of Estero and County counsel asserting the Village owns the road and providing documentation.
Separately, following a recent serious vehicle accident, staff received resident requests to remove the left-turn lane at the community entrance on U.S. 41 and allow only right turns out of the community. Charlie Krebs said he will ask the Village of Estero to factor the request into its Corkscrew Road intersection traffic study. The Board tabled Item 4 pending the Village’s study results.
