Board to let residential permit-fee moratorium expire; fee schedule to be updated

The board discussed a moratorium on charging new residential building permit fees that is scheduled to expire at the end of the calendar year. Administrator Charity Mitchell reported a comparison of Beecher’s permit fees with those of other communities and said Beecher’s fees appear lower. Based on that review, staff recommended letting the moratorium expire and taking time to determine updated fee levels.
Administrator Mitchell told the board that an ordinance updating the permit fee schedule will be drafted and ready for consideration at the next meeting. Trustees did not adopt a new fee at this session; the moratorium lapse and draft ordinance will come back to the board for formal action.
