During public comment at the July 28 Hancock County Area Plan Commission meeting, Jordan Jenkins said residents of The Fields at Sugar Creek received mailed notices indicating a meeting date they attended but found the doors locked and then saw the agenda skip their item. "We live at The Fields at Sugar Creek, and we all got letters in the mail saying that we were supposed to come today to talk about the building that's supposed to happen in our backyards," Jenkins said, asking when the matter would be heard.
Staff and commissioners confirmed that the petition had been continued because of an error in public notice and that the matter is scheduled for the commission's August 25 meeting at 6:30 p.m. Staff assured Jenkins that corrected notices will be re-sent and reminded residents that written comments are accepted if submitted by the published deadline (two business days before the hearing). The planning department advised residents to call the office with questions if they cannot attend the Aug. 25 hearing.
