Meredith 250th parade draws 73 groups; parade runs under budget, committee proposes time capsule

Chris Kelly, chair of Meredith’s 250th Committee, reported to the Select Board that the Fourth of July parade attracted 73 participating groups.
“We collected $8,091 through donations and shirt sales, so the town’s only out-of-pocket expenses so far is $1,201,” Kelly said, describing a parade that cost $9,292 against a town appropriation of $15,000.
Kelly thanked local businesses, volunteers, the Meredith Police Department, Fire Department and the town’s Department of Public Works for support. He said the committee plans another town celebration and is considering a time capsule to be buried on Old Home Day if the board approves it.
Manager Judie Milner confirmed the committee’s accounting and said if the board endorses a time capsule plan the committee will return with specific proposals for location and contents. The Select Board asked no immediate questions and directed staff to place any formal time-capsule request on a future agenda.
