AdventHealth reports new mobile mammography and MRI capacity, and two container farms for local food access

Kristen Johnson of AdventHealth thanked the delegation for state support that led to two state-appropriated mobile units: a mobile mammography unit coming into operation and a mobile MRI unit that has been in use since February. She said the local MRI capacity has grown dramatically; “From January to July of this year, we have performed 693 MRIs,” she reported, compared with 78 for the same period the prior year when the service visited the county only twice a month.
Johnson also announced a notice of award for a rural hospital infrastructure capital grant to bring two freight-container hydroponic farms to AdventHealth. She described each as a 40-foot by 8-foot container that uses about five gallons of water a day per unit and can produce about 750 heads of lettuce per week; seed-to-harvest is roughly seven to eight weeks. Johnson said the produce will support patient meals, a staff pantry and local food pantries, helping address food insecurity in the community.
