The Milton Board of Health voted June 1 to ratify an emergency condemnation order for 4 Craig Street, a property that town inspectors determined was unfit for human habitation. The order, originally issued May 19, 2026, required residents to vacate within 24 hours.
Town Counsel Alexander Weisheit recommended the Board ratify the condemnation after Health Director staff and the assistant health director inspected the house on June 1 and documented multiple hazards. The Board cited fire hazards, rodent activity, compromised air quality and sewage leakage as the primary concerns. Chair Laura T. Richards and Member Deborah Milbauer voted to ratify the order.
Owner Gertha Pierre and her daughter Fay attended the hearing and described recent cleanup efforts. Pierre told the Board that "we used a dumpster and coordinated pest control practices" and asked the Board to consider those actions. Town Counsel and health staff said the documented hazards needed remediation before the residence could be declared habitable. The Board advised the Pierre family that the Health Department would provide assistance and enforced the existing condemnation order.
Next steps noted during the hearing included follow-up inspections by health staff and continued coordination with town counsel. The Board did not set a re-occupation date; any change in status will depend on documented abatement of the cited hazards.
