The Silver Creek Township Planning & Zoning Board approved a variance Jan. 7, 2025, allowing Zeigler Custom Homes to construct a new dwelling whose deck is partially within the building setback from Locke Lake. Chairman Chris Klein told the board the dwelling footprint meets zoning requirements and that shifting the house toward the road would interfere with the existing septic system.
Neighbor James Lunde spoke in support of the request. Member Tom Vanek moved to approve the variance; Member Mike Helman seconded. The motion carried with eight votes in favor and one abstention by Member Mark Egge (recorded as 8-0, Egge abstained). The minutes do not record further conditions or mitigation measures related to the deck encroachment.
The item was considered under the new-business portion of the meeting; no appeals, written objections, or additional studies were noted in the minutes. The board’s action permits construction as requested by the applicant subject to any building permits or shoreland regulations enforced by other agencies.
