Selectboard hears details of GMVS student orientation event; requests signage and public notice

Sam Jackson presented plans for the GMVS Adventure Event, an orientation for students scheduled for Sept. 12, 2025 that will combine running, biking and hiking across a route that begins on the GMVS campus and traverses Lincoln Gap, Jerusalem, Sharpshooter and other local roads and trails. Jackson said the students will move in teams and that "the students’ locations are tracked using beacons."
Selectboard member Ron Graves asked that participants stay on one side of the road to limit traffic impacts and safety risks. Michael Jordan requested that the town post signage and notify residents in advance through Front Porch Forum and mail chip. The board took no formal vote to issue a permit during the meeting; members instead recorded the route description and recommended that event organizers coordinate with the road crew and post advance notices to the public.
Organizers said the event will be completed in one day and that student teams will be tracked for safety. The board emphasized advance notification and signage as the key steps to reduce conflicts with local traffic and trail users.
