ZBA approves Aiello’s request to expand home childcare from 6 to 10 children

The Ferrisburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment voted unanimously March 5 to approve a conditional-use permit that will allow Tia Aiello to increase her home childcare from six to ten children.

Aiello told the board she operates in the basement of her home with three means of egress, staggered drop-offs usually limiting parent arrivals to two at a time, and that she has “a new system put in that was sized for this use.” Katie Hill, the zoning administrator, confirmed that caring for more than six children requires conditional-use review. Craig Heindel of the Conservation Commission said the commission was “enthusiastic” about the property’s adjacency to conserved land and the opportunity for children to engage with wildlife, but asked that the applicant provide wastewater documentation for the file.

The board closed the public hearing and moved to approve the application. Diane Nadon made the motion to close the hearing; Katie Quinn seconded. The subsequent approval motion passed with all in favor. The board requested that a copy of the new wastewater system documentation be submitted and included in the application record.

Next steps: the applicant must provide the requested wastewater documentation to the zoning office; no further board action was recorded in the minutes.
