Selectboard appoints local coach Keith Heyer to fill vacant seat

The Fair Haven Selectboard voted to appoint Keith Heyer to fill the remainder of Michael Dorn’s term following candidate interviews and an executive-session deliberation. Heyer introduced himself to the board and described long family ties to town and his work as a special-education teacher and varsity football coach.
“I'm born right here… I teach special education at Bowling High School,” Heyer said during his interview, adding that infrastructure — streets and sidewalks — and supporting children are priorities if appointed. Chair explained the board would reach out to the candidates after an executive session and that the two not selected should consider running in March elections for one-year seats.
The motion to appoint Heyer was made and seconded after the executive session; members voted in favor by voice. The board recorded that the appointee will serve the balance of the vacated term and that the public will be notified once the appointment is processed.
