Fairfield selectboard reviews road maintenance issues, approves temporary fixes and event closures

The Selectboard reviewed several road-related items on April 13, including a maintenance update, a request from Whites Camp Road Association for town assistance, and two requests to temporarily close School Street for community events.
A speaker identified as 'Moe' reported that chloride will cost $1.28 per gallon this year compared with $1.20 last year; crews have been working with the grader. One truck with only 16,000 miles on it had an issue with the rear brakes on one side and was sent back to Hayes for repair. The board discussed Whites Camp Road Association’s request that the town contribute to maintenance now that the town owns property on that road; the board approved tailgating one load of crushed asphalt and grading.
The board also approved two requests for road closure of School Street: June 20 for the Detoor Bike Race and August 28 for a Community Center Block Party (the latter approval is contingent on grant approval). The minutes show the board considered limited town use of Whites Camp Road when granting a modest, one-time contribution to maintenance rather than ongoing work.
