Local group pitches countywide housing marketplace and single application to simplify access

A community project team presented a proposal for a countywide housing marketplace and single pre-application to make affordable housing easier to find and apply for. The proposal would display interior photos, floor plans and eligibility guidance and would include an integrated waiting list so applicants would not have to submit the same personal data to multiple landlords.

The presenter said the approach is “basically a marketplace” that’s content-heavy but technologically simple, and that volunteers could collect photos and floorplans: “When I needed affordable housing, what I found was an extra picture of the building, and that was it…people looking for affordable housing should be able to see the interior of what they're looking for, a floor plan and a price range,” the presenter said. Board members and staff discussed possible long-term hosts; the presenter and the board suggested Mountainlands or the housing authority could maintain the site to avoid creating a new nonprofit.

Staff cautioned that some property-management systems and funding sources impose data and application requirements, but said a central marketplace could still link to separate application workflows for properties where full integration would not be possible. The board agreed to schedule follow-up meetings with project leads and housing authority staff to explore scope and next steps.
