ZBA will allow administrative review of revised fence for Long Point basketball court
Summary
Long Point Corporation voted to proceed with a new basketball court; the ZBA reaffirmed a condition requiring a permanent fence to prevent balls from reaching the road and instructed staff to administratively approve a revised fence design outside the road right-of-way if it meets that purpose.

The Zoning Board reviewed an update on the approved Long Point Corporation basketball court project (Application #25-046) and gave staff authority to administratively approve a revised fence design if it meets the original condition. Katie Hill reported the Long Point board voted on Aug. 2 to proceed with the project and provided an alternate fence design. The ZBA’s earlier approval required "a permanent fence of chain link or similar construction" installed not more than 10 feet from the paved edge of the court on the side closest to the road to prevent loose balls from reaching the road; some Long Point board members indicated a preference to locate the fence closer to the road to improve effectiveness.
The ZBA instructed Katie Hill to review the proposed fence design and location and to approve it administratively if it was a permanent fence located outside the road right-of-way that adequately served the purpose of keeping balls out of the road. That administrative approach is intended to resolve minor design-location differences without returning to a full ZBA hearing, provided the fence falls outside the road right-of-way and satisfies the safety objective.
