Development Group updates downtown residential plan, parking-lot grant and community-led 'alley' project

Sarah Evers, representing the Development Group, told commissioners the Gardens at Midtown downtown residential project is in the negotiation phase after one developer responded to the RFQ; the development group will present the evaluation committee’s recommendation to its board next week.
Evers highlighted a $1,400,000 rural infrastructure grant that will finance a downtown parking-lot construction to serve the downtown residential site and local businesses. She also described a pilot alleyway placemaking project funded through a BVC capital line and planned as a community-focused demonstration to spur downtown activity.
Evers described social-media engagement and outreach metrics and invited commissioners to two upcoming events, including a Chamber lunch featuring Pensacola Mayor DC Reeves on Aug. 28.
