The Hammond Redevelopment Commission approved participant installations under the basement backup protection program during the meeting.
Staff brought two previously approved applicants forward so commissioners could see them in person and online before voting. One applicant, Melissa Baer of 4618 Hickory Avenue (2nd District), participated online and staff explained Baer’s valve will be installed inside the basement. A staff member described another approved applicant whose valve will be installed outside. After a motion and second, the commission approved Baer's installation by roll call (5–0).
Commissioners noted the program gives homeowners peace of mind once valves are installed.
