The Fairhaven Select Board approved a $60,000 grant agreement with the VCDP to study converting an old industrial building into a site for modular housing production.
A staff member described the award: "This is the fee the BCDP has given us $60,000 to assess the, usefulness of that building to turn it back into a modular home producing factory." The board moved and seconded a motion to accept the grant and voted in favor by voice vote.
Supporters framed the study as a way to leverage tax-increment-style financing (CHIP/TIF) to make small-town housing projects financially viable. The funding will be used for feasibility analysis and preliminary planning; staff said the work was already in motion and the grant signature was the final administrative step.
