Council holds first reading of 2026–2027 budget after revisions

Mayor Sarah Thompson described changes from her original proposal intended to reach common ground with council, including carrying forward unencumbered reserves in accordance with Kentucky law, carrying forward improvement projects, elimination of lighting at Hollingsworth Field, and eliminating the city administrative officer position.
Council members generally indicated support for the revised budget during the meeting but did not take a final vote; the ordinance remains at first reading and staff will incorporate the changes for subsequent consideration and adoption. City Treasurer Wayne Harris earlier presented current account balances that informed the budget discussion.
