City to seek ballot approval for Fire & EMS ad valorem tax increase to $0.20 per $100 valuation

City Attorney Michelle Eviston told council the city has until the second Tuesday in August to put a proposed increase to the Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services special ad valorem tax on the ballot. She will prepare an ordinance proposing an increase to $0.20 per $100 valuation (currently $0.175) and present it for first reading at the July 23, 2026 meeting.
Council authorized scheduling a special meeting before the second Tuesday in August to provide the public an opportunity to comment on the proposed tax increase. The measure would require formal ordinance action and, if placed on the ballot, voter approval according to statutory requirements.
