Liberty School District to continue free K–8 meals; TK seats likely to match last year

Superintendent Jerrad Jeske reported the district again qualified for Free Breakfast and Lunch for K–8 students and, because the district has qualified for a second consecutive year, is now eligible for three additional years of free meals under the program. Jeske said enrollment remains steady at 562 students and the district plans to move forward with a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class next year.
“At this time it appears we will be able to offer the same number of spots as last year (20 students),” Jeske told the board while outlining options for TK enrollment. He also said the state has placed a cap on TK seats, and the district is awaiting final legislative direction on TK funding before making final placement decisions. The board did not take a formal vote on TK funding at the meeting.
The superintendent also said the district will pursue grants to fund planned energy‑efficiency upgrades at the high school (replacing fixtures and light bulbs) to comply with Clean Building Performance Standards. Those facilities upgrades are separate from the meal program eligibility and dependent on grant awards.
