Sam McHale, the owner of Goomba Pizza, said he opened the location in January 2025 and closed it in December 2025 and believed renewal was due January 2026. City staff (Lisa) explained that business licenses expire June 30 and must be renewed by July 31, with a $200 late penalty after August 1. Staff recommended waiving the late fee for McHale given the circumstances and the board granted the waiver. Lisa said, “They expire June 30 of every year. They need to be renewed by July 31. Come August 1, there's a $200 penalty.”
Similar waivers were granted to William Acevedo (All Heating and Air Conditioning), Tommy Coleman (House Calls Incorporated) and to childcare operators Platonia Stingley Barnes (Shining Star Kids) and D'Angela Charter (Little Bouncers Childcare). Staff repeatedly cited contractor/business license confusion for in‑city operations and indicated the board would revisit the vendor‑fee waiver for the downtown market next year.
