The minutes record MRV Bear Initiative (MRVBI) activity and local outreach plans. A draft 2024 budget and funding request was sent to MRVBI members showing a $500 figure and the record notes Fayston funded its 2024 contribution in December 2023. MRVBI scheduled tabling at farmers markets and events (July 27, Aug. 3, Sept. 14 or 28, Oct. 5; Sept. 7 at Morefest; Oct. 5 at MRG Green & Gold; Oct. 12 at Sugarbush Community Day) to increase community awareness.
VF&W participation was recorded: Jaclyn Comeau (VF&W) joined the July 23 MRVBI meeting and Senior Game Warden Chad Barret joined an Aug. 27 meeting. Minutes state VF&W will collar some bears to track and gather data. The commission also noted a recent euthanization in Underhill and reported higher-than-average hunting-season harvests in some areas; local members described the year as particularly bad for negative bear interactions in parts of the valley.
