State parks department wins approval for 15‑space off‑season parking at Kingsland Bay

The Ferrisburgh Zoning Board unanimously approved Application 26‑004 on Feb. 4 to add roughly 15 off‑season parking spaces at Kingsland Bay State Park, 787 Kingsland Bay State Park Road. Rick Hedding of the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation told the Board the proposal pulls the parking inside the gate and removes the existing gate to allow more off‑season use; the Department's engineer supplied stormwater treatment plans.
Board members and Town staff discussed emergency access: the Fire Chief recommended a Knox Box on the gate, while Hedding said the park currently uses a combination lock and provides the combination to emergency responders; he added that responders could open a gate with bolt cutters in an emergency. Hedding also said the Department maintains two plow vehicles in the region and plows eight parks in the area, so winter maintenance will be done in‑house. Norm Smith moved to approve the application and Mike Delaney seconded; the motion passed unanimously at 7:35 p.m.
The Board recorded no public opposition during the hearing and asked the Park to consider the Fire Chief's suggestion about a Knox Box.
