Representatives from the Fairlee library — Richard Bibeau, Cyrie Lange, Brook Lewis, and Charlotte Williams — presented a HUD rural library infrastructure grant opportunity to the Selectboard. They said the program awards one grant per county in Vermont, offers between $50,000 and $400,000, and sets a March 31, 2026 application deadline.
The presenters told the board that eligibility requirements include a minimum number of open hours per week, availability of Wi‑Fi, and that a building must be located above a defined flood plain. They identified three priorities for the Fairlee library if awarded funds: replace the HVAC system, replace the outdoor ramp/porch/steps, and add an emergency ramp exit to the front of the building. The Selectboard assigned Berger to contact engineer Jeremy Greeley about the library structural engineering report as a follow-up action.
