Elementary and junior high staff report assessment findings, PBIS work and upcoming awards

Alex Saywers presented the elementary and junior high report to the board on Jan. 27, summarizing assessment use, professional development and student recognition plans.
"January has been a great month and it was nice to get back to some normalcy after a busy December and winter break," Saywers stated. He described completion of AIMSWeb assessments in December and K–5 profile meetings on Jan. 14 and 16 to review student progress and determine interventions and WIN-time supports. The K–5 team also participated in ELA training focused on a new writing curriculum to support instruction.
Saywers said staff continue a book study on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), working to tighten class-wide expectations and routines and design more engaging lessons. He noted upcoming events including a K–5 Awards Assembly focused on the character trait of Respect and a junior high Quarter 2 Awards Assembly recognizing character students, academic students, and winter athletes; junior high students also have a planned ASB activity (bowling at Lilac Lanes).
The report provided information on classroom supports and scheduled student recognition events; the board took no formal action on these items during the meeting.
