Board approves CIB-funded ditch, design, lighting and streetscape purchases

The Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety approved several funding allocations and corresponding agreements for local capital projects on March 5.
Staff presented a request from Dean Button to allocate $16,425 in Capital Improvement Board (CIB) funds for construction observation on JF Mahoney Drive ditch improvements, saying CIB had already approved the funding. The board approved the agreement and allocation. Staff also presented a separate request for $120,500 in CIB funding for design work by 1st Group Engineering to realign Willow Court at State Street, citing police reports of roadway departures at the curve; the board approved that allocation as well.
Additional small-dollar requests were approved: $1,985.55 in CIB funds to Hawk Enterprises to restore street lighting on Sibley (staff said the service point had to be moved, requiring extra conduit and cabling) and $18,567 for direct purchase of replacement benches and trash receptacles on Homan Avenue. Staff also presented a $126,083.51 request from Council District gaming funds for decorative lighting on Lawndale, noting Councilman Emerson requested the project; the board approved the allocation and was told an agreement would be presented at a later meeting.
