County to modernize McKinley–Bittersweet intersection with new detection and ADA improvements (estimated $350,000)

County infrastructure staff described a plan to modernize the McKinley–Bittersweet intersection and make safety-focused upgrades across county-owned signals.
Skye Matters told commissioners the county’s signal equipment is outdated and sometimes on timer rather than using detection; the project will add modern vehicle detection, a new pedestrian crossing with push-button signs, and replacement of curb ramps to meet ADA standards. "I mean, we're estimating it's gonna be $350,000," Skye Matters said. The county will advertise bids and open them in August; commissioners approved the advertisement request.
Staff also said interim timing adjustments are planned on Cleveland Avenue while longer-term upgrades are bid and scheduled.
