The Saint Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved Change Order No.1 with contractor Reeth Riley to expand resurfacing work under the Community Crossings matching grant.
Skye Matters of the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Growth told the board crews added a section of Darden Road (Helvey to Swanson) and installed a curb turnout and riprap on Jewel Avenue to address standing water and erosion. "This change order is an increase of 69,575 dollars and 18 cents, bringing the contract amount to about to $2,264,475.20," Skye Matters said. Staff explained some projects came in under estimated costs, freeing funds to address higher-need sections.
Commissioners were told the change order does not increase the total taxpayer burden for the program but reallocates funds to use available savings now rather than postponing work. The board approved the amendment by motion and voice vote.
