Miami Lakes committee approves back-to-school PSA, extra patrols at schools

The Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee voted to produce a public‑service announcement to remind residents about traffic and pedestrian safety as the school year begins. The short PSA will be produced for distribution on town channels and will highlight increased patrols, drop‑off guidance and simple safety steps for parents and students.

Deputy Amador of the Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s Office told the committee the department will augment patrol time at school locations in the first days of the year. As Chair Carlos framed the proposal, the committee agreed the quick video should include concise, 15–30 second bullets rather than long-form material. "Additional units will be dispatched around our town with increased time at each school location," a line the committee agreed to include in the PSA for residents.

The committee also discussed routes for school messaging, including the limitations of working directly with schools (which often require school‑board approval). Members agreed the town can post the PSA on municipal social channels immediately and seek permission for broader school‑distribution where necessary. The motion to create the PSA passed by voice vote with Nancy Rogers seconding. Staff will coordinate a special-call meeting to finalize the video before the next council meeting.
