District staff presented updates to secondary handbooks covering KUHS, Eagle Ridge, KLC and Ponderosa. The board approved several substantive changes: a new weighted GPA system for incoming freshmen (giving Honors/AP courses greater weight), clarified valedictorian calculation rules (including handling of pass/no-pass and transfer credits), and direction to restore parent notification on a student's first truancy offense. The board also directed the athletic policy to explicitly include theft, vandalism and cheating as athletics violations.
On cell phones, the board agreed to implement a bell-to-bell prohibition on campus consistent with the anticipated state requirement, while allowing off-campus use during open lunch where applicable. Trustees asked for clearer labeling of AP versus honors courses and requested administrative language clarifying how external AP credits will be treated for GPA and honors calculations; the handbooks were approved with the requested changes.
