County to partner on state rural health planning grants, not lead grantee

The director listed local applicants that submitted planning proposals and said the county would not be the direct grantee; instead, Washington County will collaborate with hospital and health system partners if the state awards the funds to a regional applicant.
Committee members asked about focus areas; the director said one local application emphasized obstetrics and maternity services, while another emphasized social care networks and social determinants of health. The director said the planning period runs from Sept. 1 through June 30 for the first year and that the county signed a letter of support for partner applications.
The briefing was informational; the committee did not take formal action but asked to be kept updated if the state announces awards.
