Selectboard approves Vermont Overland Bike & Run event, permits and local-option tax application

The Town of West Windsor Selectboard unanimously approved the Vermont Overland Bike & Run to be held Aug. 15–16 at Ascutney Outdoors, with overnight camping permitted Aug. 14–15 and food and alcohol service provided by Brownsville Butcher & Pantry.
Event organizer Ansel Dickey told the Board the bike race will run on Saturday and the run on Sunday; he said organizers adjusted the bike course to avoid a long straightaway on Silver Hill Road after reports last year of riders traveling in both lanes at high speeds. Town Administrator Matt Frederick confirmed the event insurance certificate is on file and that event fees have been paid. The Board also noted Windsor-area police and Windsor EMS will provide traffic and medical support as needed.
Selectboard Chair Mark Higgins praised community volunteers and the success of recent events, and Board member Mark Harley moved to approve both the event application and the DLL permit. John Brodie seconded and “all were in favor.”
The Board also discussed the 1% local option tax (LOT) for rooms, meals and alcohol that took effect July 1; Matt Frederick said the LOT applies to purchases of food and alcohol at the event that are otherwise subject to state tax. The permit approval is conditional on compliance with state tax rules and local licensing requirements.
