Brownsville Cemetery Association proposes transferring private cemetery to town ownership

Bill Howland, president of the Brownsville Cemetery Association, told the Selectboard the association is exploring a plan to transfer the privately owned Brownsville Cemetery to the Town of West Windsor. Howland said the current BCA board is aging and the association has had difficulty attracting younger volunteers.
Howland told the board the BCA expects its current assets to fund cemetery management and care for many years and does not foresee a need for taxpayer funding in the immediate future. The Selectboard had an initial discussion of possible timelines, cemetery functions and staffing; further details will be worked out in future meetings as the BCA develops a formal proposal.
