In August the La Cygne Council reviewed a sale of Waste Management service routes to L & K (Louisburg) and approved reassignment of the city’s solid‑waste contract to the new provider. Council amended the contract to allow a $5,000 irrevocable letter of credit in place of a $5,000 surety bond and authorized the assignment after reviewing insurance and performance clauses. Officials noted residents should report any service problems so council can enforce contractual performance standards.
Separately, council moved forward on cemetery maintenance. After reviewing options, council approved hiring a caretaker for Oak Lawn Cemetery and funded road construction materials using crushed concrete remaining from a river‑bridge demolition as low‑cost fill. Council also approved limited city assistance (equipment/labor) to establish a temporary parking area for La Harper Heights on an unimproved section of Elm Street.
