Planning commission sets FY25 priorities: heights, medium‑scale uses and a unified modification tool

The South Burlington Planning Commission agreed on a focused FY25 work plan and voted unanimously to make three items its highest priorities: revising height/dimensional standards, examining medium-scale neighborhood uses (and related light-manufacturing definitions), and developing a unified alternative-compliance/modification tool.
Kelsey (staff member) walked commissioners through the FY25 work-plan structure: a set of required council-driven regulatory projects that will occupy most staff time, ongoing maintenance items, and a list of nonregulatory or optional topics that the commission can add as time allows. After discussion of project size and staffing demands, the commission confirmed by vote that the three items named above would be the year’s main follow-ups. "So if it's acceptable ... I would love confirmation, by a vote, that the heights, the medium scale neighborhood uses ... and the alternative compliance tool are FY25 work plan items," Kelsey said; the commission then moved, seconded and recorded the vote as unanimous.
Commissioners discussed delegating some brainstorming or nonregulatory work to committees (economic development, affordable housing) and asked staff for example materials on alternative compliance tools and samples from other municipalities before formal drafting begins.
