Town Administrator Matt Frederick presented a recommendation from the Study Committee — Parking & Events (SCOPE) for a targeted event fee intended to generate non‑tax revenue for trail and conservation maintenance. The proposal would add a $2 fee per paid participant for events that draw more than 500 people.
Frederick told the Selectboard the fee is one of several options SCOPE is investigating. He estimated that the Highway Department spends “approximately $10,000.00 of taxpayer funds annually for labor, equipment costs, and materials to maintain those parking lots,” and said proceeds from the fee would be dedicated to trail system maintenance and related conservation assets. The Selectboard expressed support for continuing SCOPE’s work to evaluate feasibility and potential revenue and noted any implementation would likely be included in the FY28 budget cycle.
No formal vote was taken on the fee at the May 27 meeting; the board asked SCOPE to continue analysis and return with more detailed options, revenue estimates, and implementation mechanisms.
